Meet your Crystal Seas Everglades kayaking guide in the parking lot of the Gulf Coast Visitor Center in Everglades City. After a brief paddle lesson and equipment orientation, we will head out on the water into the Everglades National Park.

We will start by paddling up one of two local rivers (the Turner River or the Lopez River).  The tide and weather will determine which route is best for our Everglades kayak expedition. After a brief shallow water crossing, we enter the rivers which branch into a twisted maze of mangrove swamp glades that beg to be paddled. Often referred to as "mangrove tunnels", these small creeks and cuts lead to countless small bays and passages for us to explore.

On our full day tours we will occasionally stop along the way to stretch our legs and have lunch (you will want to bring a sack lunch). Don’t worry about getting lost… our Everglades kayak guide will take care of the elaborate navigation so that you will have more time to feast your eyes on the abundance of life in this amazing region. You will see numerous fish splashing as they swim past your kayak. A truly great place to watch birds, even for the most avid birder, hundreds of birds call this place home in the winter and year round.  While you kayak south Florida, you will also want to keep a keen eye for marine mammals such as the local dolphins thrashing at mullet fish or the colossal manatee which are often spotted as they surface to breathe

Today’s paddle would be similar to the first or last day of our Everglades Wilderness Waterway tour. This is a great introduction to the sport of sea kayaking and your guide will insure a truly memorable experience. Who knows, maybe you will join us for a multi-day kayak camping tour to take on the Wilderness Waterway for yourself.  Just northwest of the Florida Keys kayaking in the Everglades is a spectacular winter paddling destination!

Special thanks to Angie Krieger and Carrie Weaver for above photos
